Marylebone Cricket Club

(abbr the MCC)
a cricket club, established in 1787, which used to be the main administrative organization for all cricket in England and Wales. It owns and has its headquarters at Lord’s in north London. The MCC is still responsible for the rules of cricket, wherever it is played. Many people consider the club and its members to be rather old-fashioned. Membership is limited and there is a long list of people waiting to join. Women members have only been allowed since 1998.

▪ British sports organization
former governing body of cricket, founded in London in 1787. Marylebone soon became the leading cricket club in England and, eventually, the world authority on laws. The MCC headquarters are at Lord's Cricket Ground in London. The Cricket Council is now the final arbiter in England, as are boards of control in other countries, with the International Cricket Conference exercising advisory jurisdiction over world cricket affairs.
